Storywood Inclusive Arts will be hosting an Inclusive Arts Festival for audiences with complex needs from 13-20 March, 2024 at The Drama Factory and The Playhouse Theatre, Somerset West. The festival will take place over 7 days and will include a number of theatre productions and arts workshops for audiences with complex needs and their carers. The aim of the festival is to create a safe space for such audiences no matter their specific need and to enable them to partake in arts experiences from which they are often excluded. Additionally, the festival aims to provide a platform for information- and skillsharing amongst parents, carers and other theatre practitioners.
The following events will be included
PRODUCTIONS:
Sailaway and Into the Garden: two productions for audiences with neurological, sensory and cognitive challenges. Each production will have two versions: a verbal and a non-verbal version for non-verbal audiences.
A production for blind audiences (Labyrinth theatre)
A production for audiences with hearing challenges
A production for teen and adult audiences with hearing challenges with subtitles/ a sign language interpreter.
A relaxed musical production.
A Cabaret in the Dark – for blind/partially sighted audiences and their families
EXHIBITIONS:
An art and craft exhibition by disabled artists
An open exploratory sensory space
WORKSHOPS:
A Makaton (signing) workshop for parents and carers
A Dance for Parkinsons workshop for participants with PD and other mobility challenges
A sensory theatre-making workshop for theatre practitioners
Music therapy sessions for participants and carers
